Farmacy Beauty Honey Drop Moisturizer

I’ve used the Farmacy Beauty Honey Drop Moisturizer fairly consistently since I purchased it during the Sephora VIB sale, and I’m finally “hitting jar.” (Note: the pictures in the post are at least several weeks old). You get 50 ml / 1.7 fl oz of product for $58 CAD / $45 USD / £38.00.

I was inspired to purchase the Honey Drop after reading Sharmtoaster’s great review. This sounded perfect for me because I love lightweight moisturizers and I have oily skin. Unfortunately, it was just okay. It’s a decent moisturizer, but it’s really nothing special. There are many other moisturizers that give me better results and have a more pleasant user experience, and most of those are cheaper. Let’s talk about the claims:

  • “Boosts skin’s natural moisture” – Honestly, no. It doesn’t take much to moisture my skin (it’s oily and very hydrated), and this was less moisturizing than all of my favourite moisturizers. I feel like it sits on my skin and evaporates.
  • “Softens and soothes skin” – Somewhat. It could have done so much more! I had high expectations after all of the reviews I read.
  • “Improves visible firmness and elasticity” – No. I haven’t noticed any changes over the past two months, but maybe there are long term effects. Some of the ingredients looks promising.
  • “Gives an instant dewy glow” – Yes, but it dries down after about ten minutes and my skin looks pretty much the same.

Here are some other observations:

  • It was fine under makeup. It didn’t add any extra radiance or longevity, but it didn’t take anything away either.
  • At night, it was never moisturizing enough on its own.
  • On several occasions, I’ve accidentally screwed the lid on too tightly and couldn’t get it off. It’s not a huge deal, but it’s annoying. This has happened to me with the Honey Potion as well, but I haven’t experienced with anything else (except tomato sauce).
  • The lid is magnetic, which is handy for storing the little metal spatula that comes with it.
  • The jar is pretty and Instagram-friendly, but I’m not a huge fan of jar packaging. Not because it’s unsanitary, but because it requires an extra step. Who has time to wash a spatula? Erm, who wants to take the time to wash a spatula? I like it when I can squirt products directly onto my face. (No, that’s not what I’m trying to say.)
  • The texture is okay. I like gels, but this is slightly too greasy for me.
  • I think I might enjoy this more if I lived in a humid climate; maybe it would absorb better.
  • I would recommend purchasing this if you’re really into green beauty and care about natural ingredients.
  • Check out Sharmtoaster’s post to read her take on the ingredients. Here’s a link to the ingredient breakdown on Cosdna.

I’m sad that things didn’t work out between me and the Honey Drop, but it’s probably for the best. I’m glad that I tried it, but I should have gotten a sample first. It’s okay, but it’s far from magical.

  1. I have noticed a lot hype around this brand a lot, but I’ve never tried anything from them myself. I do have oily skin myself, but I do my moisturisers to be, well… moisturizing 😀 I don’t enjoy thing that are too lightweight, which this one sounds like.
