2017 Favourites: Makeup

As the title suggests, this post will go through my favourite makeup discoveries of 2017, linking reviews and swatch comparisons where possible. I slowed down my makeup consumption in 2017 and I made fewer impulse purchases – you can read more about that here. I love over 80% of the products that I purchased thanks to my research, but these are my absolute favourite would-repurchase-1000x-over products. Some of these products were released ages ago, but I didn’t discover them until this year. I’ll start with face products, followed by eyes and lips.

Nars Soft Matte Complete Concealer

I’ve always struggled with concealer. It can be so finicky and I constantly have to change my application method depending on my skin’s condition. However, I can always count on this concealer to look good. It has a medium coverage, it lasts all day if I use a setting powder, it mixes well with foundations, it blurs pores,  it blends nicely, it looks natural, and it’s basically everything that I’ve ever dreamed of. If you found Glossier’s Stretch Concealer too greasy and sheer, you’ll love this. I’ve used this regularly since March and I own two different shades. Check out my mini review on Instagram here and my blog post here.

MAC Prep + Prime Fix+

I tried this for the first time in March, and I can’t believe that I waited so long! This melds my makeup together and makes it look so natural. I use this whenever my makeup looks cakey. I don’t know how I managed before I started using this.

Suqqu Pure Colour Blush in 105 Tankouka

I purchased this blush at Selfridges when I made a quick trip to London in October. I had dreamed of trying a Suqqu blush for the longest time, and this met all of my expectations. This blush looks kind of boring in the pan and very shimmery in swatches, but it’s a perfect warm pink with a golden sheen on my cheeks. It looks natural and beautiful. The formula is great, as I expected. It applies effortlessly and it still looks fantastic after an eighteen hour day. Here are swatches from one of my favourite Instagrammers, @tremblelikeaflower.

Viseart Warm Mattes Eyeshadow Palette

This was my first beauty purchase of 2017, and I’m still in love with it. Viseart palettes are great for creating a variety of eye looks without any fuss. The shades are more versatile than they look and the colours never look muddy when blended. These eyeshadows are firm, buildable, and long lasting. You can read about my experience with Viseart palettes here and you can find swatches of the Warm Mattes palette on Instagram here.

Chanel Ombre Première Longwear Cream Eyeshadow

This is a more recent purchase, but I’ve worn it so much that I couldn’t bear to exclude it. Check out my recent review on Instagram here.

Inglot AMC Gel Eyeliner in 77

This was a birthday gift from my friend Jess. As a gel eyeliner fan, I had been wanting to try this for ages. This is one of the smoothest eyeliners I’ve ever used. It’s precise enough to make a wing, it lasts all day as long as you don’t smear it within the first sixty seconds after application, and it’s easier to remove with eye makeup remover. It never crumbles, unlike the ones I’ve tried from Tarte and ColourPop. I’m tempted to purchase this in every colour, but unfortunately I don’t wear eyeliner often enough to justify it.

Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick in Pillow Talk

I had previously finished a Pillow Talk Lip Cheat and I knew that I loved the colour, so I couldn’t resist ordering Pillow Talk when it was released in one of my favourite lipstick formulas of all time. It quickly replaced Bitch Perfect as my go-to lipstick. It’s comfortable, long-wearing, and flattering. I even hosted a giveaway for it and Valentine. Check out my review on Instagram here and view swatches here and here.

Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk, YSL Rosewood Gang, Lise Watier Rachelle, Dior LA Pink

YSL Tatouage Couture Liquid Matte Lip Stain in Rosewood Gang

I purchased this while I was visiting a friend in Montréal. This colour looked gorgeous on her and it lasted beautifully throughout our lunch, so I decided to pick it up at Sephora. I’m in love with the formula and the colour is perfect. Check out comparisons on Instagram here and here (a full review is coming!) and view swatches here.

Lise Watier Rouge Fondant Suprême in Rachelle

This was another birthday gift from Jess. Lise Watier is a seriously underrated brand. On me, Rachelle is a flattering warm, muted pinky coral. Most importantly, it’s hydrating and it fades evenly. Check out my review on Instagram here and view comparison swatches here.

Dior Addict Lacquer Stick in LA Pink

World Inspires You Create encouraged me to purchase this lipstick, and I’m so glad she did. Check out my blog post here, my Instagram post here, and comparison swatches here and here.
