I almost wanted to title this post “the TRUTH about the Peripera Ink Velvet in Inktude Rose” because most reviews omit a major flaw that seriously turned me off this product. I love the way this applies, I love the way it looks, and I love the way it feels, but it’s just not for me. Read on to find out why.
Inktude Rose looks very different from online swatches, but it’s super pretty nonetheless. I actually purchased this hoping that it would be a dupe for Glossier’s Zip, but I like this even more. You can find it online for less than $10 including shipping.
Peripera offers several similar formulas. The Ink Velvet is supposed to have a soft velvet finish (check), sharp colour (check), and long-lasting wear (check). It glides easily onto the lips, but you need to be careful because it’s very pigmented and leaves a stain immediately. It feels comfortable and I don’t really notice it on my lips throughout the day. The original colour lasts quite awhile; when it does fade, it does so gracefully and leaves an intense stain. I love a good lip stain. However, I hate it when a product leaves a stain that’s completely different from the original colour (…and even the advertised colour). This lovely, wearable red leaves a hot pink stain that requires multiple rounds of cleansing oil and lip scrub to remove. (If you’ve tried the old Hello Waffle slimline formula, you’ll know that stain.) Because of this, I won’t be using this product. It’s a shame because everything else was really great! If Peripera reformulates and excludes the staining pigment, I will gladly repurchase this. If a hot pink stain doesn’t bother you, I’m sure you’d love this.
Unfortunately, I can’t find the swatch photos I took comparing the product when it’s immediately applied to the stain it leaves. This blog post is very helpful and it has great swatches, so definitely check it out to see what I mean. The product looks great on this blogger and I was unable to get a similar effect on my lips.
Have you tried any great lip stains lately? Please let me know because I’m always on the hunt for great lip products!
